Refugee Professions and Skills in the Labor Market

Malin Forsberg , Statistics Sweden

• The study background By the end of 2017 there were almost 1, 9 million foreign-born persons in the Swedish population. Of these, almost 0.5 million are refugees received by a municipality, which account for about 5% of Sweden's population. An important aspect of the integration area is foreign-born person’s establishment in the labor market. Another important aspect, from both a social perspective but also from an individual perspective, is the extent to which immigrants have work that matches their skills. • Objectives and/or question(s) The purpose of the study is to describe whether the profession of employed refugees received by a municipality, matches the education they have. The study will also describe whether there is a change in matching with the number of years in employment. • Data and methods The data used for the study comes from the database STATIV. STATIV contains all persons registered in Sweden on December 31, respectively. The purpose of STATIV is to provide a basis for description and analysis regarding integration, segregation, gender equality and migration. • Results The study is in progress • Main conclusions The study is in progress
