Primorsky Krai plays an important role as a strategic region for the economic and social development of the Far East and Russia as a whole. Never the less, in the year 2017, for example, net-migration there was equal to -3209 thousand people. In addition, the state policy aimed at attracting and retaining the population in this territory seems not to be effective. For this reason, we decided to conduct a study on the territory of Primorsky Krai in order to explore the reasons for the population exodus. For these purposes, we used a number of qualitative methods of analysis: in-depth expert interviews, focus groups, participant observation. Studies were conducted in several districts of Primorsky Krai in order to create the most complete picture of the socio-economic situation in the region. Based on the results of the expedition, the main conclusion can be drawn. Speaking about the desire of young people to leave the region, it is important to stress that for each district, the reasons are different, but in general, the main problem is the remoteness from the regional center. This aspect leads to other problems with the infrastructure and socio-economic life of the residents. Nevertheless, we can emphasize that the regional center –Vladivostok is the most successful in this regard due to its location. Now it is the tourist center of the Far East and is the center of attraction for residents from neighboring regions that are in stagnation.
